Lifestyle Fitness Sculpts Body and Mind
We have all heard the conventional wisdom for building a fit body: cardio exercise three times per week, lift light weights to tone muscle, drink water, don't drink alcohol, eat protein and no carbs…or is that carbs and no protein….or carbs and protein but no fat?! Maintaining motivation to undergo a lifestyle overhaul while managing job, family, and other concerns can be daunting and lonely. In addition, the often contradictory and ever changing dictates of the media can be confusing and unrealistic for most women. To make matters worse, the exaggerated importance of body appearance often eclipses the importance of life balance, physical health, and peace of mind. The latter of these is perhaps the most elusive, with media images of unrealistic bodies flooding the average woman's consciousness and prompting self-loathing and feelings of inadequacy from comparing oneself to these images.
Teri Dombrowski, owner of Lifestyle Fitness, would like to change all that. She aims to make her mark on the fitness industry in the Cleveland area by offering the tools to build not only a fit body, but also a healthy psyche. Teri has been prominent in the fitness scene for more than fifteen years, serving stints as fitness director at the Cleveland Skating Club and Severance Athletic Club and acting as fitness consultant for the Channel 5 Morning Exchange . She also founded the Northeast Ohio Association of Health and Fitness Professionals.
With Lifestyle Fitness, her newest project, Teri has laid the foundation for her greatest goal, the establishment of a holistic health program for women who have full lives, real bodies, shared experiences, and common goals and concerns regarding their health and fitness as they age. Lifestyle provides a comprehensive exercise menu featuring group classes with individual attention in disciplines such as aerobic
conditioning, total body toning with weights, and ballet/ yoga based stretching. But this is only the beginning.
What sets Lifestyle apart from other exercise studios is the augmentation of these services with other tools for better living. The Trim Life Program is one such offering: this unique system is not a short-term diet, but a highly effective approach to food that empowers participants to overcome counterproductive eating habits and thought processes to effect lifelong changes in thought and behavior. Success is sustained through weekly support groups and overwhelmingly positive results, often after repeated failure through other methods.
Lifestyle differs from other exercise programs by embracing a variety of body types, rather than forcing acceptance of a rigid and unattainable ideal. These are real women, bonding through their common desires to be the best
version of themselves while refusing to compromise their unique physicalities and personalities. Humor, social and political commentary, and shared life experiences pepper these classes and lend a genuine warmth and ease that unites a diverse group of women. This community that is Lifestyle is building strength:strength of body, strength of mind, strength of group, strength of the individual. Members return to work out, but also to be empowered, and even inspired.
Teri's impact on fitness will continue to grow as membership increases. She also hopes to meet her goals of educating women on relevant social, health, and political issues by implementing a lecture series by month's end that will feature speakers on topics such as alternative healing methods, self-defense, and aging.
