Is it dangerous for elderly people to do sports?
It is a wide spread and wrong attitude. Sports and fitness can be started at any age. The circulatory system and the muscles can be trained after the age of 70 too. Power training and the connected muscle growth has shown astonishing results of gains in security and well being.
So sport is not a thing just for the youth.
But getting over a certain age one tends not to be so mindless, being afraid of njuries or pain, so one doesn't trust one self doing new stuff. Also problems with physical abilities are often showing up. Therefor it is important to seek professional help and guidance. Maybe this is why more and more elderly are finding their way to the gym.
A good quality oriented fitness center makes sure that the safety and the individual fitness level of the clients during training are being
considered. Surely starting intensive training in later parts of life has it risks. Chasing those 10 miles through the woods might not be a good idea if you haven't been working on your fitness since college. It might be a risk to the heart and then again you might be lucky.
A good advice is to see a professional trainer or physician before starting up regular stamina training. So where are you at this point? Are you doing any sports or recreational activities at all. If not, then why not? Hopefully you lost some of your anxiety towards fitness and getting older. Remember that it's never too late to start.
You're just missing good fun if you don't start soon.
